If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I spent last week in Sydney. It was an ambitious schedule, but worthwhile trip nevertheless. Sydney always brings me a sense of calm as well a delicious food, more coffees than sensible, and a whole lot of love from family and friends.
Self-Care in Sydney
Now, on to the good stuff! Every time I return home, I notice something different about Sydney. Like other great cities in the world, Sydney is an evolving metropolis, constantly in flux, which makes every trip a discovery.
This time I wandered the Rose Garden Pavilion in the Botanic Gardens, perused the racks of countless boutiques on Pitt St, dined at trendy gastropubs like 3 Weeds and the Woolwich Pier Hotel, and rediscovered my love of running on grass (yes, real grass). For the first time in ages, I took off my Fitbit, and let myself wander without a step goal. It was incredibly rejuvenating, and exactly the mental (and physical) break that I needed.
Sydney Fashion
I also let myself get lost in Aussie fashion. I have always been interested in fashion, but rarely let myself walk aimlessly between the racks. There are always other things to be done, and looking at flouncy tops and silky tees just
I loved the delicate details, pastel pinks and blues, flowy fabrics, and foreign influence in this summer’s collections. I particularly loved the ranges in Country Road and Seed Heritage, and could have easily emptied my wallet at both. Fortunately, my baggage allowance was a limiting factor. I escaped with just one beautiful black dress, and a couple of pairs of shoes. However the Sydney aesthetic left a lasting impression. Expect more Sydney-inspired themes in my recipesover the coming months!
Speaking of recipes, there were plenty of culinary adventures last week (naturally). Sydney food ismy kind of food. It’s all about showcasing simple, fresh ingredients in unique ways. It’s unfussy but creative, and draws inspiration from many cuisines.
Sydney Food
I had plenty of delicious meals– including several at home– but my favorite dish was the blackened chicken, lentil and feta salad that I had out in the ‘burbs at Wild Pear. Wild Pear is only open for breakfast and lunch, but their menu is sophisticated, modern and fresh. Thank you to my dear friend, Courtney, for the company and the recommendation! If you’re ever in the Hills District, Wild Pear, is worth a visit. You’re guaranteed to get a good Instagram pic and a good feed!
I could talk about Sydney food, and fashion and beaches all day, but none of it would have been half as good without a special group of people to share it with. By far the best bit of my trip was catching up with loved ones. Like many other Aussies living abroad, my wings are firmly grounded in roots– and I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have both.
